Toscolano Maderno - History
Evidence of a Roman villa can be found in Toscolano. From 1300 onwards, at the end of the valley of the Toscolano River, the first paper industries were founded. Roman relics have also been found in Maderno, in fact a temple was built in the honour of Apollo. There is evidence of the presence of the Etruscans thanks to the discovery of an epigraph. In 969 the town had many benefits thanks to Otto I and in 1160 it received further concessions from Federico Barbarossa. It later became the headquarters for the administration of the western Riviera, a position which it maintained until 1377, at which time they decided to move to Salò. In 1928 Toscolano and Maderno were reunited to form a single town.
